Tamara Dronova, representing the Roland team, emerged victorious in the third stage of the Vuelta a El Salvador 2024″, showcasing her exceptional sprinting skills as she crossed the finish line first in San Luis Talpa. Dronova’s triumph came after a fiercely contested race, where she strategically broke away in a group of 6 other cyclists and clinched the lead in the final sprint.
Expressing her elation after the race, Dronova emphasised the importance of securing crucial UCI points for herself and her team, underscoring the challenging nature of the competition and a nod to the Women’s WorldTour relegation battle which is never far away. She also described El Salvador as friendly and would love to return again to race next year. Despite the intense heat, Dronova’s experience and determination propelled her to victory, securing vital points for both herself and the Roland team.
Following closely behind Dronova was Andrea Alzate from the Eneicat team in Spain, securing second place, and Arantza Villalรณn of Chile racing for Soltec Iberoamerica in Panama, claiming the third spot on the podium. Despite facing challenges posed by the scorching heat, both cyclists commended Dronova’s exceptional performance, acknowledging her power in the final sprint.
The overall leader of the tour remains Stage 1 winner, the Swiss cyclist Elena Hartmann, with the final stage set to take place in Santa Ana, featuring a challenging circuit spanning 99 kilometres over undulating terrain, including three intermediate sprints. As the competition intensifies, the Roland team continues to dominate, with Hartmann leading the standings followed by Dronova and Cypriot cyclist Antri Christoforou rising up to 3rd place.
