Team Jayco AlUla has announced the addition of former professional cyclist Valerio Piva to their sport director team for the 2024 season.
Piva, who boasts a decade of professional road cycling experience from the 1980s, transitioned to a DS role after his riding career. His journey in this role began with youth cycling before stepping up to the WorldTour in 2002. During his illustrious career as a director, Piva has collaborated with several notable cyclists, including Mark Cavendish and Greg Van Avermaet. Originally from Italy, he later moved to Flanders, near the Netherlands border.
Brent Copeland, Team Jayco AlUla’s General Manager, expressed excitement about Piva joining the team, highlighting his deep understanding of the sport, extensive experience, and the varied insights he has gained from working with a diverse range of riders.

He is eager to leverage his extensive experience with young talents and champions to contribute to the team’s growth, aiming to drive them to more victories and higher world rankings.
Piva’s career highlights include racing professionally from 1982 to 1991, with a stage win at the Giro d’Italia in 1983. His DS career includes roles with teams like T-Mobile, HTC Columbia, Katusha, BMC, and most recently, Intermarché-Circus-Wanty.
