Team Jumbo-Visma Women saves energy in Giro stage to Prato Nevoso

Team Jumbo-Visma Women has not been unable to show itself in the front during the second stage of the Giro Donne. In the mountain stage with arrival on top of the Prato Nevoso, the black-and-yellow formation could not keep up with the high tempo of, among others, day winner Anna van der Breggen. The focus now is on winning stages in the coming days.

In the 100km stage, Belgian Julie Van de Velde was allowed to ride for her own chance. “Long climbs normally suit me. The final climb was 18 kilometres long. After my teammates had ridden for me all day, there was a frenzy at the foot of the climb. I managed to keep myself in a group of about twenty riders. Then they attacked and unfortunately I couldn’t follow.”

“WE ARE FOCUSED ON SOME STAGES IN PARTICULAR.”

“I then decided to save myself for the coming days”, Van de Velde continued. “We are focused on some stages in particular. Those are the goals of the team in this race. I hope I can contribute to that. We are going to do everything we can to get good results.”

“WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE COMING DAYS. THERE WILL BE SOME GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR US AS A TEAM.”

Marco Postma

Sports director Marco Postma is looking forward to the coming days. “The long climb to Prato Nevoso shuffled the cards of the classification riders as expected. As a team we came through this stage well. We did not waste too much power. We are looking forward to the coming days. There will be some great opportunities for us as a team.”
