Vittoria Guazzini out with pelvic fracture for foreseeable future

Vittoria Guazzini

Italian rider Vittoria Guazzini sustained a fractured pelvis during the FDJ-Suez recon for this year’s Paris Roubaix. She crashed heavily on Wednesday before Saturday’s race and was taken to hospital immediately. The examination by doctors revealed a fracture of her pelvis. It’s the second time Paris Roubaix Femmes has been involved in an injury for Guazzini, in the 2021 race she broke her ankle as the mud caused many crashes.

“Vittoria will of course not be at the start of Paris-Roubaix and is currently out of circulation. This is a big blow for the team in the run-up to Paris-Roubaix. We wish her a speedy and full recovery.”

FDJ-Suez

It’s Guazzini’s second year on the team and she impressed enough last year to be taken to the Tour de France Femmes, a decision that seemingly saw Brodie Chapman move to pastures new as a result. She won the Bretagne Ladies Tour and also podiumed Le Samyn des Dames and the GP Morbihan in 2022. Guazzini was considered one of the main outside contenders for this year’s race. Once again taking a podium at Le Samyn des Dames, also another one at Trofeo Alfredo Binda before finishing 4th at Dwars door Vlaanderen and 7th at Ronde van Drenthe too.
