Marianne Vos has once again succeeded in achieving a podium place in the Giro d’Italia Donne. During the sixth stage, the Dutch rider finished in third place after another bunch sprint.
The stage around Lake Como was coloured by two breakaway riders. The speed was very high all day, which made for a hectic race. After the teams with sprint ambitions had reeled everyone in, a new bunch sprint was unavoidable. Vos came up just short against day winner Emma Norsgaard and Coryn Rivera.
“I AM HAPPY THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET A PODIUM PLACE FOR THE TEAM AGAIN.”Marianne Vos
“It was a very hectic stage around Lake Como”, Vos said. “The speed in the peloton was high all day. The team was able to keep me out of the wind. They also made sure the two escapees were caught in time. The team positioned me well in the last kilometre. I felt I was ready for the sprint. In the end I came a bit too short in terms of pure speed to win. I am happy that I was able to get a podium place for the team again.”
“WE DID A GOOD JOB AS A TEAM.”Anouska Koster
Anouska Koster worked herself to the bone today. “It was the longest stage of this Giro. Add to that the high tempo and the heat. All this made it a tough day. There were many tunnels in the course. As a team we were well prepared and had lights on our bikes. That made a big difference to the visibility. In the final stage we did the necessary front work together with Team DSM to catch the escapees. Then it was important to deliver Marianne well in the last kilometre. We did a good job as a team. Marianne’s third place is again a great achievement.”
