The jersey designs for this year’s Giro Donne have been finalised with sponsors assigned to each jersey. The pink jersey is synonymous with the Giro. The design for the women’s race has changed a few times over the years but the Maglia Rosa formed part of the Giro Donne’s name back when it was branded the Giro Rosa. The Maglia Ciclamino has achieved some notoriety in the men’s Giro d’Italia. With the purple jersey unique across all of the grand tours and Ciclamino being a fun word to say for English speakers it’s almost on a par with the Tour’s polka dot jersey.
The Green jersey is for the mountains at the Giro Donne. It’s too easy to fall into the trap that the Tour de France sets that we think the Maglia Verde will be for the sprints but a different sort of rider will be in the jersey. The White jersey though, that’s still for youth riders. The highest rider in the general classification under 25 will get to wear that jersey. The final jersey, the Maglia Azzurra is for the highest-ranked Italian in the general classification.
The Giro Donne has made a big deal about the sponsors on each jersey and no doubt it all contributes to the €250k prize money pool. The Maglia Rosa is sponsored by UNHCR, the Ciclamino by Fastweb, the Verde by Discovery+, the Bianca by Eurosport and the Azzurra by Il Messaggero. Gobik will make the jerseys, they currently also make the team jerseys for FDJ-Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope and UAE Team ADQ.
Other sponsors include Astoria Wines who provide the podium fizz and Maniva who will provide water from the source at the Passo Maniva which the race will visit on stage 7.
