The simplest option is the official Lloyds Tour of Britain YouTube channel, which will provide a free live stream of all five stages from Lincoln through to Sunday’s finale in Earlston. ITV also has extensive free-to-air coverage, with Stages 1 to 4 shown live on ITV4 and ITVX, while Stage 5 will remain live on ITVX despite not being shown live on ITV4.
TNT Sports and HBO Max provide the subscription alternatives, with every stage available live across the five-day race. The important distinction comes on Sunday 6 September. Stage 5 is not being shown live on ITV4, but viewers can still watch it free through ITVX or the official Tour of Britain YouTube stream.
There is therefore no stage of the 2026 race that requires a paid subscription in the UK.

The official Tour of Britain YouTube channel is arguably the easiest option for anyone who simply wants to watch the racing.
All five stages are being streamed there free of charge. There is no requirement for YouTube Premium, and the stream can be watched through a browser, phone, tablet, smart TV or most conventional streaming devices.
Individual daily streams will appear through the channel as the race progresses, so it is worth using the main Tour of Britain page rather than bookmarking one specific stage link. The same channel was used extensively during the Tour of Britain Women in August and also carries race videos and full-stage replays.
YouTube is especially useful for Sunday’s final stage because it remains available even though ITV4’s live television coverage finishes after Stage 4.
How to watch the Tour of Britain on ITV4 and ITVX
ITV provides the other major free option.
Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be broadcast live on ITV4 and streamed simultaneously through ITVX. ITVX then carries Stage 5 live on Sunday when the race reaches the Scottish Borders.

Those are the current scheduled television windows and may still move slightly if ITV alters its listings.
ITVX is free with an account and works through its website and apps on phones, tablets, smart televisions and mainstream streaming devices. For anyone intending to follow all five days through the same platform, ITVX is therefore the better ITV option because it also carries Sunday’s finale.
Tour of Britain highlights on ITV4 and ITVX
ITV is also showing a daily highlights programme for viewers unable to watch several hours of racing during the day.
The programmes are available on ITV4 and ITVX, allowing the race to be watched on demand as well as through the scheduled television broadcast.
For example, the current Stage 1 schedule has the highlights programme between 19:00 and 20:00 BST, with similar evening slots used across much of the week.
That provides a useful alternative for anyone working during the stages, particularly because the men’s Tour of Britain takes place during the same week as the Vuelta a España.
Is the Men’s Tour of Britain on TNT Sports?
Yes. TNT Sports will broadcast all five stages live in the UK and Ireland, while streaming is available through HBO Max for viewers with a package that includes TNT Sports.
That gives existing subscribers another way of watching the race alongside the free ITV and YouTube services.
There is little reason to take out a TNT Sports subscription specifically for the Tour of Britain, however. The entire race can already be watched free through YouTube, while ITVX also carries all five stages.
The paid coverage is more useful for viewers who already use TNT Sports and HBO Max for races such as the Vuelta a España and want to keep most of their cycling on one platform.
Stage 1: Lincoln to Lincoln
Wednesday 2 September
The Tour begins with 182.5km starting and finishing in Lincoln, and the first stage is much more important to the overall classification than a normal opening day.
After racing through Lincolnshire, the peloton returns to the city for five passages of the cobbled Michaelgate climb. Its average gradient exceeds 11%, making the closing circuits particularly well suited to the punchier GC contenders.
Cosnefroy starts among the obvious favourites, while Tim Wellens, Jasper Stuyven, Filippo Ganna, Rick Pluimers and Lewis Askey all have characteristics suited to the repeated short climbing.
Anyone unable to watch the complete ITV4 broadcast should make sure they are tuned in for the final circuits rather than only the last few kilometres. With no time trial or summit finish anywhere in the five-day race, seconds lost in Lincoln could remain relevant all the way to Earlston.
The race itself has a noticeably different complexion from some earlier provisional announcements, with the final 18-team Tour of Britain line-up containing five WorldTour teams but several significant changes among the expected riders.
Stage 2: Boston to Skegness
Thursday 3 September
Boston to Skegness offers the clearest sprint opportunity of the race.
The relatively flat Lincolnshire route should bring Olav Kooij and Tim Merlier into direct competition, with Ethan Vernon, Sam Welsford and several other sprinters also targeting the finish.
Kooij already has a considerable history at the Tour of Britain. He won the opening stage of the 2025 race in Southwold before adding two more victories during the week.
He has since moved from Visma | Lease a Bike to Decathlon CMA CGM after signing a three-year deal with the French team.
The principal complication on Thursday may be the wind. The exposed Lincolnshire roads can make an otherwise straightforward sprint stage considerably more nervous if crosswinds develop.
Stage 3: Hull to Beverley
Friday 4 September
The third stage covers 194.1km from Hull to Beverley and provides another possible sprint, but the terrain is significantly more demanding than the road to Skegness.
A succession of climbs arrives before four laps of a 16km Beverley circuit, while the finish itself drags uphill towards Beverley Racecourse.
That potentially moves the balance towards Kooij and the stronger Classics-style sprinters rather than Merlier, particularly if teams decide to make the circuits difficult.
It could also become relevant to the general classification. With bonus seconds available and no huge mountain stage later in the race, Cosnefroy and the other overall contenders cannot necessarily afford to switch off simply because the stage is expected to produce some form of sprint.
For viewers joining late, the finishing circuits are the part to prioritise.
Stage 4: Helmsley to Leyburn
Saturday 5 September
Stage 4 is the day most likely to decide who wins the Tour of Britain.
The race crosses North Yorkshire from Helmsley to Leyburn, accumulating 2,699 metres of climbing through the Yorkshire Dales. Greenhow Bank, Kidstones, Greets Moss and Grinton Moor create repeated opportunities to reduce the GC group before the finish.
This is the stage where Ilan Van Wilder and the stronger climbers need to test Cosnefroy rather than simply follow UAE Team Emirates-XRG.
UAE’s depth makes that difficult. Wellens, Florian Vermeersch and Felix Großschartner give the team several tactical options, meaning Cosnefroy does not necessarily have to personally respond whenever one of his rivals attacks.
If you only intend to watch one complete stage of the race, Saturday is the obvious choice. The important moves could begin well before the final hour, making ITV4’s live coverage from 09:50 particularly useful.
Stage 5: Earlston to Earlston
Sunday 6 September
Sunday is the one stage where viewers need to remember the ITV arrangement changes.
There is no live ITV4 broadcast, but the complete stage remains available free through ITVX and the Tour of Britain YouTube channel. TNT Sports and HBO Max also continue to carry the race live.
The 156.1km route starting and finishing in Earlston contains 2,236 metres of climbing, including difficult roads through the Lammermuir Hills before two closing circuits.
It is therefore not simply a ceremonial final stage followed by a sprint.
If Stage 4 produces a large GC gap, UAE or whichever team holds the leader’s jersey can concentrate on defence. If the overall remains separated by only a handful of seconds, Sunday offers enough terrain for another round of attacks.
That is particularly important given how close the Tour of Britain can become. Romain Grégoire won the 2025 race by only two seconds from Remco Evenepoel, with Julian Alaphilippe third.
Why the 2026 Tour of Britain is worth watching
The five-stage format is new for the men’s race and forms part of a wider expansion that gave the women’s and men’s Tours an equal number of racing days in 2026. ProCyclingUK previously looked at how the expanded Tour of Britain programme was put together.
The sporting interest is split almost evenly between the GC and sprint battles.
Cosnefroy heads the overall contenders, but Van Wilder, Wellens, Ganna, Stuyven, Pluimers and Askey give the race enough depth that UAE should not be able to simply dictate all five stages.
At the other end of the spectrum, Kooij and Merlier bring genuine Tour de France-winning sprint speed to the flatter stages.
There is also a significant home storyline around Ben Swift, who announced immediately before the race that he will retire at the end of the season. The 38-year-old will finish his career after 18 professional seasons, making this his final Tour of Britain appearance.

The key information is simple. The Tour of Britain Men runs from Wednesday 2 September to Sunday 6 September 2026, and every stage can be watched live for free.
The official Tour of Britain YouTube channel has daily free live streams of all five stages.
ITVX also carries all five stages live, while ITV4 shows Stages 1 to 4 before switching to highlights-only coverage for Sunday’s finale. Daily ITV highlights remain available throughout the race.
TNT Sports and HBO Max provide paid alternatives for existing subscribers.
For UK cycling fans, it is an unusually strong broadcast package. Whether following Cosnefroy’s GC challenge, Kooij and Merlier in the sprints or Swift’s final home Tour, there is no need to pay to watch any of the 2026 race live.
