Teniel Campbell extends with Smurfit Westrock for 2027 after national title double

Teniel Campbell has signed a contract extension with Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team for 2027, keeping the Trinidad and Tobago international with the British Continental squad after a season in which she reclaimed both of her national road titles and won two medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

The 29-year-old will remain with Smurfit Westrock after rejoining the team in June 2026. The agreement gives Campbell another season in a familiar environment and provides the squad with a rider who has spent four years racing at Women’s WorldTour level, represented her country at the Olympic Games and competed on both the road and track.

Two national titles and regional medals in 2026

Campbell completed a double at the Trinidad and Tobago national road championships in late June, winning the individual time trial on 27 June and the road race the following day. It marked an immediate return to national success in the first month after her move back to Smurfit Westrock.

She followed those victories with two podium finishes at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo in July. Campbell took bronze in the women’s individual time trial on 25 July, finishing behind Cuba’s Marlies Mejías and Mexico’s Sara Roel, before securing silver in the road race on 26 July.

Those performances mattered beyond the medals themselves. The national championship double underlined her ability to deliver in two different formats, while the regional podiums showed she remained competitive against some of the strongest riders from across the Caribbean and Central America.

Her international programme also included the 2026 Tour of Britain Women, the road World Championships in Montréal and the Track World Championships. Balancing those events with appearances for Smurfit Westrock reflects the breadth of racing Campbell can bring to a smaller team, from demanding road races to individual efforts against the clock.

Experience from the WorldTour and Olympic Games

Campbell made her name on the international scene at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, claiming silver in both the road race and individual time trial. In the latter event, she finished second to American Chloé Dygert; in the road race she crossed the line one second behind Cuba’s Arlenis Sierra.

The results helped establish Campbell as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s leading road cyclists. She subsequently represented her country at the Tokyo Olympic Games, held in 2021, and developed her career in the professional European peloton.

After a season with Valcar in 2020, she spent four years with the Australian WorldTour organisation that raced as Team BikeExchange, BikeExchange-Jayco, Jayco AlUla and then Liv AlUla Jayco between 2021 and 2024. That period exposed Campbell to the sport’s biggest stage races and one-day events, as well as the demands of racing within a major professional team.

Her ability to compete on both road and track also adds another dimension to her profile. Smurfit Westrock list Campbell as an all-rounder who races across the two disciplines, and her national and regional results demonstrate that the team’s experience is not confined to conventional road-race roles.

Continuity after returning to Smurfit Westrock

Campbell first joined Smurfit Westrock during 2025, before the team announced her return in June 2026. The latest extension confirms that the relationship will continue into another full season rather than ending after the current racing programme.

For the team, retaining a rider with international championship experience offers practical value. Campbell has raced at the highest level and can bring that knowledge to a squad mixing established competitors with younger riders still developing their skills in UCI events. She is also capable of pursuing results herself when the course and race situation suit her strengths.

Smurfit Westrock have been active in shaping their 2027 roster. ProCyclingUK has already reported the arrival of April Tacey and the signing of Caoimhe O’Brien, alongside several other additions for next season.

Campbell’s renewal is a different type of decision: it retains an internationally experienced rider within that changing group. Having returned to the team during 2026 and taken four significant medals or titles during the summer, she enters 2027 with recent results to build upon and another opportunity to race for Smurfit Westrock.
