Lizzy Banks (Retired)

Lizzy Banks is a retired British cyclist who built a successful professional career after taking up competitive cycling relatively late. A strong stage racer with particular ability on hilly terrain, she won two stages of the Giro d’Italia Women and produced consistent results across major European stage races and one-day events. Banks raced for UnitedHealthcare, Bigla-Paule Ka, Ceratizit-WNT and EF Education-TIBCO-SVB before ending her professional cycling career in 2024.

Career overview

Banks began racing while studying medicine at the University of Sheffield and progressed rapidly enough to pursue cycling professionally. She joined UnitedHealthcare in 2018 before moving to Bigla, where she produced her breakthrough victory on Stage 8 of the 2019 Giro d’Italia Women. Banks returned a year later to win another Giro stage at Tivoli and also finished sixth at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. After racing for Ceratizit-WNT, she joined EF Education-TIBCO-SVB for 2022 and attempted to rebuild following a period affected by illness and health problems. Banks ultimately ended her professional career in 2024, closing a relatively short but successful spell in the peloton that included two Grand Tour stage victories.
