Ellen van Dijk begins 2023 season at Omloop het Nieuwsblad

Ellen van Dijk

With the women’s cycling season kicking off in Australia before heading to Spain and the UAE, we’re yet to see Ellen van Dijk. The Trek-Segafredo rider will rectify that by coming back to the peloton at Omloop het Nieuwsblad at the end of February. It will be the first road race of the calendar for the current World TT champion. Her major goals will come later and races like Omloop will help her reach the highest level of form.

And in the month of April I want to be very good again. In my first year [at Paris Roubaix Femmes] I really had a nightmare but last time it was a fantastic race. I do notice that it is a race that I really like, although I don’t think I will start if it rains again. But I want to be good again in the month of April.

In the Tour de France Femmes, a time trial is included in the route. The advantage is that I don’t go for a classification and therefore don’t have to ride completely empty in the Tour. It was a great spectacle last year. I was a bit skeptical beforehand, but it was really an experience. I’m really looking forward to it, but on the other hand it’s also a very nervous race, with a lot of crashes as a result. That is difficult, a week before the World Championships…”
