Lars Boom has officially parted ways with SD Worx-Protime to join FDJ-Suez as a new team director, a move announced by the French women’s team on Tuesday. Boom, who had been with SD Worx since 2022, will start immediately in his new role at FDJ-Suez.
Boom, 38, brings an extensive career to his new team, having retired from professional racing in 2019 after winning stages in the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espaรฑa. He also claimed the 2008 Cyclocross World Championship title and was a national champion in both road racing and time trials. After hanging up his bike, Boom transitioned to management in 2021, working with Liv Racing before moving to SD Worx, where he guided top riders like Lotte Kopecky and Demi Vollering.
Speaking about the new opportunity, Boom shared his excitement, stating, “I am thrilled to join FDJ-Suez, a team with a bright future ahead. The vision and plans that Stephen Delcourt has outlined for the team are fascinating, and I was eager to be part of it. I look forward to contributing to the development of the team.”
FDJ-Suez general manager, Stephen Delcourt, echoed this sentiment, describing Boom as a key addition. “Lars is the reinforcement we’ve been waiting for,” Delcourt said. “His sharp tactical insight and experience at the highest level will enable him to support the progress of both staff and riders at FDJ-Suez.”
The Dutchman will collaborate closely with performance director Lieselot Delcroix, with an eye on bolstering the teamโs success in the Classics, a particular strength of Boom’s experience. FDJ-Suez currently has a strong Dutch contingent, including riders Loes Adegeest, Nina Buijsman, Amber Kraak, and Lauren Molengraaf, all under contract through the 2025 season.
