Lifeplus-Wahoo Cycling Team has announced the signing of Czech rider Kristýna Burlová for the next two seasons, marking a strategic move for the team’s ambitions in classic and sprint races. The 21-year-old comes from Belgian outfit Lotto-Dstny Ladies, where she spent two successful years.
Burlová has made waves in the cycling world with her strong performances in Belgian punchy and sprint-style races. Her season kicked off impressively with a 13th place in Le Samyn Des Dames and continued with noteworthy finishes in the Tour de Normandie. The Czech rider then captured attention with a stunning 6th-place finish at Scheldeprijs, racing alongside some of the world’s top sprinters.
The Lifeplus-Wahoo team is known for its focus on developing talent, having already ushered more than 25 riders and staff into World Tour teams via their ‘Drops’ programme. Tom Varney, the team manager, expressed his enthusiasm about Burlová’s potential: “We are confident that with our team’s culture and structure, Kristýna will continue her rapid development.”
Burlová herself is thrilled about the opportunity and sees it as a chance for further career advancement. Although generally seen as a sprinter, she identifies more as a punchy rider. “I’m looking forward to new adventures and opportunities with the team,” she said, highlighting her love for the competitive spirit of racing and the communal aspects like coffee rides with teammates.
With this new signing, Lifeplus-Wahoo aims to strengthen its competitive edge in classics and sprints, building on its recent successes and building the team stronger for 2024 after the move of Ella Wyllie to Jayco-AlUla.
