The Trofeo Marratxi-Felanitx is the first race of the Women’s Challenge Mallorca trio of races set to take place this long weekend. The Challenge Mallorca races are more of a group of individual one-day races that are connected only by the organisation running them. Teams are free to select a squad and then pick and choose which riders start each race day, plus there is no general classification to worry about. All in all, it’s a chance to get 3 wins in the books and test the early season legs for the riders. Today’s Trofeo Marratxi-Felantix is the only one of the triptych earmarked as a sprint, despite the upward trend of the race profile in the late stages. The rolling terrain throughout the race will sap the legs, especially this early on in the season and we may see some results and challengers that we won’t see later on in the year.

Last year, EF Education-Cannondale (as was) took the very first edition of the Trofeo Marratxi-Felanitx through Noemi Rüegg. The Swiss rider outsprinted the likes of Arlenis Sierra and Chiara Consonni on the podium with a slight rise in the finale making it key to know when to jump and unleash the final kick. The favourites for this year’s race are again the sprinters with Consonni back (but on a new team) to try and improve on her 3rd place in 2024, and others like Sofie Van Rooijen, Thalita de Jong, Daria Pikulik, Anniina Ahtosalo and more who will consider themselves firmly in the hunt.
