Race Preview: Simac Ladies Tour

Despite the strict Corona measures the organisation has managed to organise the Simac Ladies Tour this year, formerly known as the Boels Ladies Tour. It is the only stage race in the BeNeLux with WorldTour status.

About the stages:
24-08 Prologue Ede, 2.4 km
25-08 1st stage: Zwolle-Hardenberg, 134.4 km
26-08 2nd stage: time trial Gennep, 17.0 km
27-08 3th Stage: Stramproy – Weert, 120.3 km
28-08 4th stage: Geleen – Sweikhuizen, 148.9 km
29-08 5th stage: Arnhem, 149.4 km

The following riders will start on behalf of Team SD Worx: Chantal van den Broek-Blaak, Elena Cecchini, Christine Majerus, Amy Pieters, Lonneke Uneken and Demi Vollering. A line-up with two riders who have already won this race. Van den Broek-Blaak was the best in 2016 and Majerus won the last edition in 2019.

Does Majerus have ambitions to win this stage race again this year? We asked her. “This has always been the home race for our team because the final was often in Limburg and Boels (former main sponsor of the team, red) was the name sponsor of the race. Now the sponsor has changed, but it is always still a quite important race for the team as it is in the Netherlands. I’m very proud on my victory in 2019. It was a hard job to defend on the jersey the last day. We had a super good team and the girls worked hard to defend my leaders jersey. I keep it in mind in a really positive way.” says Majerus.

She continues: “The Ladies Tour always is a pretty open race, because the last few years it didn’t had a really long time-trial. This year there is a 17 km long TT, so that might be decisive for the GC. We have to see who of us is up to do a good TT. Personally, I don’t have any goals on defending the title or going for the GC, because I know I’m a little bit limited in longer TT’s. But I’m still looking forward to have a good result in one of the stages. For the rest, I will do the best to help the team to victories or GC results.”
