Rain, wind and crashes in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

Rain, wind and crashes in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Today the NXTG Racing team started the Classics season in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. The day became everything you would expect from a Flemish Spring Classic: rain, hail, wind and incredibly difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, none of our riders managed to finish the race. Charlotte Kool left a really good impression in the first half of the race but had two crashes spoil her chances of a good result. Despite all that, she defines the Omloop as fantasic.

My first Omloop in one word? FANTASTIC! The atmosphere, the weather, the hills and cobbles were amazing. Before I crashed it was everything I ever dreamt of.

On the Molenberg I was positioned as sixth which made me really happy and confident. Then one rider dropped and I wanted to pass her but she made a sudden move and I crashed. The Molenberg is very steep and it was tough to get going again. I still felt good when I tried to ride back to the group but on the Paddenstraat cobbles I made a mistake and slipped away. That kind of mentally broke me.

I felt so great today that I am really looking forward to Spar Omloop van het Hageland. Time for a little revenge. I think it’s a race that could suit me.

Sports director also looks back this hard day.

Charlotte and Rozemarijn left a good impression but they had bad luck. When you are so young and have bad luck in a race like this, there is not much left. It was another important experience. This is one of the biggest races of the Spring. I hope everybody recovers well and tomorrow is another day.
