The Danilith Nokere Koerse – the raceโs full name – took the riders over 125.9 kilometres. The race contained fifteen kilometres of cobblestones and over eight hundred altimetres. The finish was at the top of the Nokereberg, which the riders had to pass several times. The German Mieke Krรถger tried her luck in the solitary breakaway and retained her lead for a long time. She was, however, caught a few dozen kilometres before the finish.
Shortly afterwards, it rained attacks. At about fifty kilometres from the finish, the peloton appeared restless. In this phase, Team Jumbo-Visma Women rode attentively and their rider Teuntje Beekhuis tried to ride away from the peloton with some other riders. Their attempt proved to be in vain. The riders with sprinting qualities then prepared for a bunch sprint, which was ultimately won by Lorena Wiebes.
โThe goal for today was to attackโ, said team manager Lieselot Decroix afterwards. โIn my opinion, we certainly succeeded in doing that. We showed ourselves from our best side. Unfortunately, we didnโt manage to escape. We had to deal with a very messy race situation halfway through. Fortunately, we didnโt get into any trouble. Noemi felt good today. She showed that in the mountain sprints, for example. The girls piloted her to the front in the final. Despite leading very early on, she rode to a nice seventh place and became the winner of the mountain classification. It turned out to be the maximum we could achieve today. We have shown ourselves here with a young team in a good wayโ, a satisfied Decroix concluded.
