Spring classic season continues with Gent-Wevelgem

After an unlucky final in Brugge-De Panne Liv Racing Xstra is ready for the next spring classic: Gent-Wevelgem.

The peloton starts in Ypres and then heads for De Moeren, where the wind can play an important role and cause some splits in het peloton. The West-Flemish hill will add some more difficulty to the parcours. The riders have to race two times over the Scherpenberg, Baneberg, Monteberg and Kemmelberg. The last ascent is at 34 km for the finish in Wevelgem.

Liv Racing Xstra brings Valerie Demey, Rachele Barbieri, Alison Jackson, Amber van der Hulst and Silke Smulders to the start line. For Demey it is a special race, because it is in her own region. “It is always special to race in West-Vlaanderen. We were unlucky in De Panne with the massive crash in the finale, but the form is good. The race is very long and contains several difficult elements. So several scenarios are possible, from echelons to a bunch sprint. I expect it will be a hard race from the start. In the hill zone teams will try to split the bunch. We have to anticipate to be there in the finale. We are all in a good shape and hopefully we will have more luck then in De Panne.”
