Tanja Erath (Retired)

Tanja Erath is a retired German professional cyclist and qualified doctor who entered the professional peloton after winning the Zwift Academy in 2017. A versatile rider with particular strength in rolling stage races and time-trials, she spent five seasons racing at the highest level with Canyon SRAM and EF Education-TIBCO-SVB.

Career overview

Erath earned her professional contract by winning the 2017 Zwift Academy and joined Canyon SRAM for 2018 after completing her medical studies. Her strongest road season came in 2019, when she finished fifth overall at the BeNe Ladies Tour, sixth at the Tour of Guangxi and recorded several top-five stage finishes at the Colorado Classic. She took third in both La Périgord Ladies and the German road race championship in 2020 before moving to Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank. A severe crash at the 2021 Women’s Tour caused spinal, rib and collarbone injuries and required surgery. Erath returned in 2022 and completed Paris-Roubaix Femmes, but announced her retirement later that season after struggling with the psychological effects of the crash.
