On Sunday Team Jumbo-Visma Women will start in Ghent-Wevelgem with Marianne Vos as the outspoken leader. A few days later, the women’s formation of the Dutch team will make its appearance at the Belgian one-day race Dwars door Vlaanderen.
After a strong performance and second place in the Trofeo Binda, Vos is looking forward to the upcoming weekend with confidence. “The past few weeks were all about preparing for this period. There are some beautiful classics on the program in Flanders and even closer to home in the Netherlands. During this period you live towards a great goal every week. The last races went well and I’m looking forward to going at it again with the team on Sunday.”
“Ghent-Wevelgem is a race in which different aspects provide the degree of difficulty”, the Dutch rider says. “You have to be alert on the unpaved plugstreets and make sure you are in the right position in the hilly zone including the Kemmelberg. The wind can play a major role on the open roads and towards the final.”
“IN THE COMING RACES, WE REALLY WANT TO GO FOR THE WIN.”RACECOACH LIESELOT DECROIX
Race coach Lieselot Decroix: “The riders have gained a lot of confidence in the Trofeo Binda. The previous races were specifically dominated by the team’s process goals. In the coming races, we really want to go for the win. Of course, we want to enter the final with as many riders as possible and support Marianne for as long as possible to ensure that she stays fresh. At the same time, we want to make it a tough race.”
Three days after Ghent-Wevelgem, the team will start in Dwars door Vlaanderen. This year’s race is more than 122 kilometres long and, as always, has plenty vicious slopes. The selection for this race will consist of Teuntje Beekhuis, Pernille Mathiesen, Karlijn Swinkels, Julie Van de Velde and Anouska Koster.
