The 22nd edition of the GP Féminin de Chambéry will be held on Sunday 20th April, kicking off the 2025 FDJ Women’s Elite French Cup with a demanding day in the hills around Chambéry-le-Vieux. The UCI 1.1 event once again offers a tough course with repeated climbing, a familiar format that has consistently favoured aggressive riders and pure climbers. Twenty teams are expected to take the start, including four from the Women’s WorldTour and two ProTeams.

ToggleThis race has grown steadily in importance over the past few seasons, offering a platform for domestic riders to shine while attracting an increasingly competitive international field. In 2024, Lore de Schepper delivered a breakthrough solo victory for AG Insurance-Soudal U23. After a cagey start to the race, she joined the first serious attack on the opening major climb before pushing clear with more than 40 kilometres remaining. Her win came from a solo effort across the hilly final half of the race, marking her first UCI triumph—and it came with the added bonus of the mountains jersey. She admitted the move hadn’t been part of the plan. “I wasn’t expecting a solo raid,” she said. “But it’s cool.”
The year before, Victorie Guilman finally took her win after finishing second in 2022. The FDJ-Suez rider got the better of Erica Magnaldi in a two-up sprint, with Evita Muzic close behind to make it a 1-3 for the French team. Guilman’s progression at this race—runner-up in 2022, winner in 2023—illustrates how repeat riders often thrive here. Magnaldi has also proved consistent, finishing on the podium in consecutive years with second and third places.
Looking further back, Brodie Chapman won in 2022 after an attacking display, and Gladys Verhulst-Wild claimed victory in 2021. The profile hasn’t changed much over the years: rolling terrain, repeated climbs, and a tendency for selective racing rather than late bunch finishes. It’s a course that rewards those who commit early rather than wait for the final lap.
The 2025 edition should follow a similar script. With nearly 2,000 metres of elevation packed into roughly 110 kilometres, the route around Sonnaz, Voglans, and Chambéry-le-Vieux offers few moments of respite. In past years, it has served as a testing ground for up-and-coming climbers and a reliable hunting ground for French teams looking to start their Coupe de France campaigns on the front foot.
