Anna van der Breggen won the Dutch National road championships in a spectacular manner today. Van der Breggen attacked early in the race with Jip van den Bos and Anouska Koster. They defended a 2 minute 50 second lead with the rest of the team blocking the peloton. In the final laps, the lead diminished quickly.
Jip van den Bos attacked and took the lead. In the final laps, Anna van der Breggen attacked when she noticed that the pursuers with Annemiek van Vleuten were in striking distance. The last lap was a time trial between the World champion (Van Vleuten) and Olympic champion (van der Breggen). Van der Breggen then had a flat tyre but maintained her lead to finish solo on the finish line on the VAM berg.
With this victory, Van der Breggen has a unique list of titles behind her name with the European title, World title, Olympic title and now the National title.
