CAMS-Basso Roster for 2022

CAMS Basso moved up to the UCI Continental ranks in 2020 but the COVID affected season didn’t given them many opportunities. 2021 at least saw the team able to race at the Women’s WorldTour level for the first time. Unfortunately none of the CAMS riders finished the Amstel Gold Race in April but they secured an invite to their home race, the Women’s Tour. The time trial stage suited Hayley Simmonds who was able to finish 21st in GC during the 6-day stage race. Natalie Grinczer was also consistent and finished 31st in GC too.

Grinczer was also successful at the Kreiz Breizh Elites race, finishing 18th Overall. No doubt that display helped her secure a transfer in 2022 to the Stade Rochelais team. The team also raced with less success at the Healthy Ageing Tour, where unfortunately no CAMS Basso riders finished, and Omloop Weshoek.

Domestically, CAMS Basso took a win at the Ryedale GP with Illi Gardner, plus a pair of Tour Series wins and the Ilkley Cycle Races with Megan Barker.

New signings to the team include Danni Shrosbree who was 8th at the 2021 National Championships whilst racing for Brother UK. Sara Bonillo joins from Farto-BTC and gives the more a more international flair. She’s a young sprinter who was 17th at Vuelta CV Feminas in 2021. Sophie Thackray joined CAMS already as as a stagiare in 2021 and showed enough to be taken on permanently. Ella Barnwell won the Halesowen RR test event back in May and made her debut at the track World Championships for Team GB in October. She was 10th in the individual pursuit and 16th in the elimination race.

Maddie Leech has had a good year at junior level, finishing 5th at the Tour of Yorkshire, 7th at the Watersley Challenge and 5th at the World Champs TT. She’s one of the next generation of young British talents. Finally, Beth Morrow joins from Storey Racing and had a solid domestic 2021 season which included 2nd at the Ilkley Town Races. She also impressed at the National Circuit Champs, finishing 12th.
