Charlotte Kool takes sprint win at Omloop der Kempen

Charlotte Kool has won the ZLM Omloop der Kempen. The fast Dutch sprinter was the quickest in the finish of the one-day race. She beat the Polish Daria Pikulik from Human Powered Health and the Dutch Maike van der Duin from Canyon-SRAM.

The Omloop der Kempen covered a 128.9km long course that also included some cobblestone sections in the North Brabant region. The start and finish were in Veldhoven, where a local circuit had to be completed. Last year’s winner was the Italian Rachele Barbieri, who came fourth this year.

The main break of the race was by Eline Jansen, Anne Knijnenburg and Nikola Bajgerova. The trio gained over a minute before Knijnenburg suffered a puncture and turned the lead trio into a duo. They managed to stay away until 12km to go, at which point the peloton reeled them in.

In the sprint, Kool comfortably was the fastest with clear daylight between her first-place finish and Pikulik/Van der Duin behind.
