Chiara Consonni 2nd in Scheldeprijs

After the third place in 2021, Valcar – Travel & Service is back on the podium of the Scheldeprijs, the Belgian 1.1 race with arrival in Schoten. The credit goes to Chiara Consonni, who was only preceded by Lorena Wiebes at the finish.

This is the fourth podium of the season for the athlete directed by Davide Arzeni, after the squares of honour at Le Samyn des Dames and Gp Oetingen and the victory a week ago at Dwars door Vlaanderen.

In the final frenzy, with many trains busy protecting the sprinters, the 22-year-old from Bergamo was led up to the last 350 meters by her five teammates (Eleonora Gasparrini, Karolina Kumiega, Silvia Persico, Ilaria Sanguineti and Margaux Vigiรฉ), before following up to the wheel of the Dutch rival, who managed to defend the first position to the finish.

“The race was less demanding than we expected since there was not much wind”, analyzes Chiara Consonni. ยซFor this reason, the group was still large in the last kilometres and the risk of falling was high. My teammates and I did well to stay compact in the first positions and this allowed us to play with Lorena Wiebes for the victory. Even if the first place did not come, I am satisfied with the performance ยป.

Performance that extends the Valcar – Travel & Service athlete’s streak of results.

ยซYes, in addition to the victory at Dwars door Vlaanderen, the continuity of performance that I have been having since the beginning of February is the positive note of this part of the season. The team and the teammates are betting a lot on me and this gives me further impetus to continue doing well ยป.

With this prestigious placing, the first campaign in Belgium gave Valcar – Travel & Service the victory at the Dwars door Vlaanderen, the second place today, the fourth at the Nokere – Koerse and the placings at the Gent – Wevelgem, at the Brugge-De Panne and at the Ronde van Vlaanderen (World Tour practice).

Now the team will move to the Ardennes, where the Amstel Gold Race will take place on Sunday 10 April. The following appointments of Valcar – Travel & Service will be: the Brabantse Pijl (13 April) and the Paris – Roubaix (17 April).
