CCC-Liv had to settle for a fourteenth place with Jeanne Korevaar in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday. She raced attentively at the front all day, but came slightly too short when the pace on the Muur van Geraardsbergen increased. Annemiek van Vleuten won the traditional opener of the Flemish cycling season.
Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens: “We intended to be well positioned as a team at the Haaghoek and the Molenberg. These are often the decisive moments in the Omloop, partly because the wind has free rein here. Just before the Haaghoek we had the misfortune that Evy Kuijpers and Riejanne Markus got involved in a crash, resulting in a bike change for Riejanne. Not much later, at the Molenberg, Jeanne was alone in the final group of 21. She completed a very satisfying race. I have also seen plenty of good things in the chasing group. Soraya Paladin in particular was fantastic in the final. She cleverly made the leap to Jeanne Korevaar’s group.”
