Welcome to live coverage of Stage 1 of the 2025 Vuelta Femenina, where the race gets underway with an 8km team time trial through the streets of central Barcelona. It’s a short opener, but with GC hopes already on the line, time gaps today could prove decisive later in the week. The course is technical and punchy, winding through the city with tight corners and few opportunities to settle into a rhythm. The strongest teams won’t just need power, they’ll need precision and discipline.
Lidl-Trek comes into the stage as the favourites. They won last year’s TTT by the finest of margins, narrowly beating Visma | Lease a Bike and finishing just one second ahead of SD Worx. Gaia Realini was the first to cross the line and claimed the opening red jersey in Valencia. In 2023, Jumbo-Visma (as was) won the TTT stage in Torrevieja by a single second from Canyon SRAM, with Anna Henderson taking the first leader’s jersey of that edition.
Today offers an opportunity to stamp early authority on the race. Any GC rider losing 20 seconds or more here will already be on the back foot before the road heads into the mountains.
