SD Worx Preview: Trofeo Binda

Weโ€™re back in Italy for the second round of the Womenโ€™s World Tour after a successful start in Strade Bianche with the victory of Chantal van den Broek-Blaak

The race over 141.8 kilometres starts at 12:10 and consists of 3 bigger laps before entering the final lap of 18 kilometres which needs to be done four times. Each round has some climbs and even the finish is uphill.

The Trofeo Alfredo Binda has never been a dull race due to the type of circuit, and so every kind of rider can win this race. With van den Broek-Blaak coming second in the 2018 edition and two wins for the team in both 2016 and 2017ย the team has already achieved some good results here in the past.ย

On behalf of Team SD Worx, the following riders will start: Chantal van den Broek-Blaak, Karol-Ann Canuel, Elena Cecchini, Niamh Fisher-Black, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and Anna Shackley. Itโ€™s even the first race for Anna Shackley with our team!

For van den Broek-Blaak, who is the current leader of the Womenโ€™s World Tour, it will be the first race after winning Strade Bianche. โ€œI enjoyed some days off and stayed in Italy between these two racesโ€. As current leader, she will the pink jersey of the general classification. โ€œItโ€™s nice to be in the jersey, I was able to wear it one time before in my career and Iโ€™ll enjoy it. This race suits me, but itโ€™s a difficult race as sometimes the climbers stay upfront, or sometimes itโ€™s more like a bunch sprint. I hope itโ€™s going to be a hard race tomorrow and that we race aggressivelyโ€.

Elena Cecchini said before that she definitely wants to win this race once: โ€œTrofeo Binda is a lovely race in my opinion, because itโ€™s hard as it is in the beginning of the season and if you look at the profile itโ€™s also something which suits the classic riders as well. There can be different scenarios in this race and thatโ€™s why I love it. Itโ€™s an unpredictable race. Iโ€™ve been really close to winning this race. In 2019 I had a really good day during this race, and I hope tomorrow it will be the same. This year with the team will be different, we have shown that we a strong and competitive team and know what we are able to. For sure we will have a nice and hard race tomorrow.”
