Team sets sights on Grand Prix de Plouay

The 20th edition of Grand Prix de Plouay – Lorient- Agglomération has arrived! With half of Team TIBCO Silicon Valley Bank crushing the Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas, our European squad is motivated to do the same tomorrow at France’s most legendary one-day events.

GP Plouay is a race of attrition and traditionally contested by a breakaway or a smaller bunch sprint. The organization has altered the route from last year’s version, adding 50km and plenty of climbing to the 101km length.

“After a great race in Norway, where the team worked really well together to land an overall podium spot, I’m looking for us to continue the momentum,” team director Rachel Hedderman said. “We have a great all-around team, so we’re prepared for lots of different scenarios to play out.”

It’s a course with a little of everything: tight technical sections, a fast descent, some windy open segments, and numerous ascents. On its own, one lap of the parcours seems mild, but racing over it 11 times? That’s a different story.

“The course has a lot of punchy climbs, and positioning will be very important. It feels like a Classics course, but without the cobbles,” Faulkner said.

“With 11 laps of the circuit, we have plenty of time to get to know the course. I think it will be a hard and fast race from the start as the peloton looks to shrink the field early on. Also, with tight corners into punchy climbs, I imagine the bunch will be strung out in several sections which could make it hard to move up. There is no time to waste on this course, so we need to be alert from the start.”
