Van Vleuten repeats 2nd place in Durango-Durango

26TH PODIUM FOR THE WOMEN’S MOVISTAR TEAM IN 2021

VAN DER BREGGEN (SDW) BEATS, THIS TIME AT A SPRINT, THE MOVISTAR TEAM EUROPEAN CHAMPION, IN THE PRELUDE TEST OF THE VUELTA A BURGOS ‘WORLDTOUR’ THAT STARTS ON THURSDAY.

This time he had to come back and ran more expectantly than in previous days, but in any case, Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team) did not stop showing his face and showing his enormous class in the Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria (UCI 1.1) , contested this Tuesday over 116 km, in the rain in its second half, with five passes through the soft Miota and two finals by the hard Goiuria / Garai.

The European champion finished 2nd again , as in Eibar, after Anna van der Breggen (SDW) , with whom she recovered from dangerous cuts formed at the Miota circuit and that left two pelotons separated by almost a minute. Alba Teruel and Jelena Erić gave, however, calm and presence to the telephone in a first group to which Van Vleuten arrived already in the first ascent through Goiuria, chasing and catching up to a Uttrup Ludwig (FDJ) that moved from afar and ended up sharing the podium with the two Dutch.

In the last climb, AVV and VDB imposed their law , without attacks between them before a sprint where the world champion prevailed with margin. A day where the legs and head of ‘Miek’ were on, in any case, in a Vuelta a Burgos (UCI Women’s WorldTour) that starts this Thursday.

STATEMENTS / Annemiek van Vleuten:

“Today I started without pressure and with the desire that the team could play different tricks to try to get a good result, and although you are always a bit disappointed to finish second and be very close to victory, the main objective today was not to win. I think we have known how to play well with the team, putting Jelena and Alba in that cut in the Miota circuit, and that in general we have run as we had to. I was able to follow Anna’s wheel well on the way up to Goiuria, I have found good legs and, although I was not able to beat her in the sprint, I get good feelings from here. Now, for Burgos; It is the last great objective of this section of the season, a WorldTour race with a lot at stake, and we will go out to close this block as well as possible ”.
