Anna Kiesenhofer wins penultimate race of 2023 season at Chrono des Nations

In a thrilling finale to the Chrono des Nations 2023, Austria’s Anna Kiesenhofer clinched victory in the women’s individual time trial. The race took place on a 27.2 km course around Les Herbiers. Kiesenhofer, donning her national jersey instead of her usual Israel Premier Tech Roland colours, clocked an impressive 36 minutes and 23 seconds. The Olympic road race champion narrowly defeated her fellow Austrian, Christina Schweinberger of Fenix-Deceuninck, by a mere second. Valeriya Kononenko from Ukraine rounded out the podium, finishing 19 seconds behind the leader.

Kiesenhofer’s win marks her fourth individual time trial triumph of the season, adding to an already sterling year that saw her claim the Austrian National Championships in June as well as victories at the Chrono de la Sionge in St-Martin and Chrono Féminin de la Gatineau earlier this month.

As for the French contenders, Coralie Demay of St Michel-Mavic-Auber 93 and Marie Le Net of FDJ-SUEZ finished in ninth and tenth place, respectively. Meanwhile, the seasoned 48-year-old American, Amber Neben, secured a respectable fifth-place finish. Kiesenhofer now succeeds Dutch cyclist Ellen van Dijk as the winner of this prestigious end-of-season time trial event.
