Demi Vollering sprints to third place in La Course

Demi Vollering took her first World Tour podium this season by finishing third in La Course. The altered edition in Nice instead of the traditional Champs-Élysées ended up in a sprint between the six riders of the breakaway. After a tough race Demi was still able to pull out a fast sprint and made it to an impressive third place.

‘’It was really hard today. I was already struggling on the climb but I knew that if I could hold on, I could be sprinting for the victory. On the flat I was struggling again but I managed to keep up and luckily it ended in a sprint. This was all I could give today and I’m so happy with the result.’’ – Demi

The pace was high throughout the entire race and there was action from start to finish. It was a real team effort the way Hanna Nilsson and Karlijn Swinkels brought Demi back in the right position after the first climb. Right on time for Demi to be there when Annemiek van Vleuten made the decisive attack. Together with five other riders they increased their lead on the technical descent.

After multiple attacks in the final kilometres on the Promenade des Anglais, Elizabeth Deignan was able to beat Marianne Vos in a thrilling sprint. Demi completed the podium.
