The 14th edition of Le Samyn des Dames will see a strong field take to the start on Tuesday, though without defending champion Vittoria Guazzini, who has finished on the podium in each of the past three years. That guarantees a new name will be added to the honours list.
In Guazzini’s absence, Switzerland’s Elise Chabbey, the Netherlands’ Amber Kraak, and New Zealand’s rapid-finishing Ally Wollaston, winner of the Clasica de Almeria, lead the charge for FDJ-Suez.
SD Worx-Protime, racing without Lotte Kopecky, is targeting a sprint victory with European champion Lorena Wiebes. She will be supported by compatriot Femke Gerritse, winner of Omloop van het Hageland on Sunday, and Poland’s Marta Lach. Picnic PostNL will also be looking to set up a sprint for Charlotte Kool.
Finland’s Anniina Ahtosalo and Austria’s Christina Schweinberger, second and third in last year’s race, return as podium contenders. They are joined by France’s Victoire Berteau, Italy’s Letizia Paternoster, and Dutch riders Sofie van Rooijen and Scarlett Souren as riders to watch.
