Lorena Wiebes clinched victory in the third stage of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas this afternoon, demonstrating her clear dominance. Her team, SD Worx-Protime, ensured she reached the finish in ideal conditions, with current general classification leader Demi Vollering also playing her part. โThis win makes me happy,โ Wiebes said on her teamโs website. โThe team did a great job. They kept the breakaways under control throughout, and then I got a perfect lead-out. My victory gesture was another nod to singer Jan Smit; this time, it was inspired by the song ‘Cupido’. I enjoy coming up with these unique victory celebrations. Our next goal is to win the general classification in this lap with Demi.โ
Eyes on the General Classification
It’s not an unrealistic goal either. The Dutch champion holds an eight-second lead over her closest rival, French rider Evita Muzic. โTomorrow is going to be a tough day,โ predicts Vollering. โIt’s always tricky to control the peloton. Even today, it was all hands on deck at the start of the stage because there were so many attacks.โ
โWe kept the pace high at the front to allow Lorena to sprint for the win. Tomorrow, weโll try to control the race again. My focus is on the climb. I think Evita Muzic and Karlijn Swinkels will be the main rivals, and I hope to secure the general classification victory.โ
The determination of the team and their tactical approach have been evident, as they maintained a high tempo, ensuring Wiebes had the best chance to sprint for the victory. Vollering’s strategy for the final day involves a keen focus on the climb, recognising Muzic and Swinkels as key competitors.
With a lead of eight seconds, Vollering is in a strong position to clinch the overall win in this lap. Her team’s cohesive effort and Wiebes’ powerful sprint today have set the stage for an exciting conclusion to the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas.
