Maaike Boogaard

Dutch rider Maaike Boogaard, a versatile presence in womenโ€™s cycling, is set to join VolkerWessels Cycling Team for the next two seasons, marking her debut with a Dutch squad. The 26-year-old, who spent recent seasons racing with AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step, signed a two-year contract, bringing both her all-round skills and experience to the team.

Boogaard, excited about her new journey, expressed a strong sense of belonging from the outset. โ€œFrom my first conversation with the team, it immediately felt like coming home,โ€ she shared, noting that the teamโ€™s unity and collective drive for top results resonated with her. โ€œThe team spirit and the determination to aim for the highest results together is something that attracted me right away.โ€

A versatile rider

VolkerWesselsโ€™ team manager, Marnix Drysdale, highlighted Boogaardโ€™s adaptability, praising her strength across multiple disciplines. โ€œMaaike is a true all-round rider, who not only excels in stage races but also delivers solid performances in prologues or short time trials,โ€ he said. โ€œSheโ€™s been in the elite womenโ€™s peloton for eight years, but next season will be her first with a Dutch team. Weโ€™re looking forward to working with her.โ€

Boogaardโ€™s track record speaks for itself. She has claimed two professional wins so far, taking victory at the 2022 EPZ Omloop van Borsele and the 2024 Grand Prix International dโ€™Isbergues. This season, she also showed impressive form at the Baloise Ladies Tour, finishing fourth overall after securing eighth in the prologue and fourth in the individual time trial.
