Usoa Ostolaza has extended her contract with Laboral Kutxa until 2027. The team, part of the Euskadi Foundation, announced today that the 26-year-old will remain a core member of what she calls her โhome team,โ marking the latest step in her rapid rise in professional cycling.
Ostolaza, who originally renewed with Laboral Kutxa last year through to 2025, has since reached a mutual agreement with the team to further her commitment by another two years. Her presence in the squad aligns with Laboral Kutxaโs mission to provide Basque riders with the resources to compete on the world stage. โI am very happy that in addition to next year, I will be extending my contract with the Laboral Kutxa team, the home team, for two more years; I will be there until 2027,โ Ostolaza shared. โI finally feel at home, valued in all areas, and I attach special importance to this when it comes to achieving performance.โ
Ostolazaโs rise has been marked by consistent achievements, securing three victories this season, including a standout win at the Spanish Championship. Her other notable results include victories in Aubisque and the Tour of the Pyrenees, a second place in the Grand Prix of the City of Eibar, fifth in the Tour of Andalusia, and 11th in the Tour de lโArdรจche. Reflecting on these successes, Ostolaza admitted, โThis 2024 season has been very specialโฆ I have also had the opportunity to participate in the European and World Championships. I also got my first wins as a professional, so Iโve enjoyed the year a lot and learned a lot.โ
In addition to these triumphs, Ostolaza also debuted in two Grand Tours this season, placing 16th in the Giro dโItalia and 24th in the Tour de France. Reflecting on these experiences, she said, โIn all those races that I participated in for the first time this year, I would like to improve my performance and try to do something better in terms of the results. And, as I always say, this team is making great strides year after year, and Iโm excited to see what steps we can take next year to raise the bar and get some great results together.โ
Ion Lazkano, Laboral Kutxaโs sports manager, spoke highly of Ostolaza’s contributions to the teamโs growth and impact. โI think that guaranteeing the extension of [her] contract is really encouraging and important news for the team,โ he remarked. โAfter all, [she] is a local cyclist; she has grown with us, together with the project, and the search she has made year after year is thereโฆ So we are very happy with its performance, and we hope that it will be the same in the future and confirms the development work.โ
As Laboral Kutxa prepares for the 2025 season, Ostolaza joins a squad now ten riders strong, alongside Naia Amondarain, Idoia Eraso, Ane Santesteban, Debora Silvestri, Catalina Soto, Alba Teruel, Laura Tomasi, Cristina Tonetti, and Eneritz Vadillo.
