A quick preview look at GP de Plumelec-Morbihan 2025

Silvia-Persico-2024-GP-Morbihan

Now in its 11th year as a UCI-level race and the fourth time it forms part of the FDJ Womenโ€™s Elite French Cup, the Grand Prix du Morbihan Fรฉminin continues to strike a balance between elite-level racing and local accessibility. Based in Brittanyโ€™s Morbihan department, the event offers a familiar but punishing challenge: a short course repeated often, with the Cรดte de Plumelec deciding everything. It’s also the sister race to La Classique Morbihan held the day before.

The format for 2024 sticks to the tried and tested. Three laps of a 13.7km grand loop followed by seven laps of a shorter 7.8km circuit mean the peloton will climb the Cรดte de Plumelec ten times. At 1.3km with a steady 6% gradient, the climb is never brutal on paper, but tackled repeatedly, and forming the final kilometre of the race, it has consistently split the field and decided the winner.

Recent editions have confirmed its tactical value. This is not a race where brute force alone wins; it rewards patience, timing, and smart positioning in a bunch that becomes increasingly nervous with each lap. Last yearโ€™s win for Silvia Persico, delivered after a late bridge and perfectly judged sprint, was a prime example. With support from UAE teammates Dominika Wlodarczyk and Eleonora Gasparrini, Persico launched late and denied Victoire Berteau and Marta Lach on the line.

Though a 1.1 race, Plumelec has often attracted riders coming off bigger stage races and those aiming to sharpen up ahead of summer. But equally, it gives home riders from French Continental teams the chance to race against WorldTour opposition on roads they know well. Only two riders, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and Audrey Cordon-Ragot, have won here twice, underlining just how open and unpredictable this race can be.
