La Classique Morbihan returns for its 10th edition in 2025, continuing its established place as the Friday fixture in Brittany’s two-day pairing with the GP de Plumelec-Morbihan. While Saturday’s race retains a slightly greater prestige, the Morbihan event has increasingly built its own character and significance on the calendar.
The Friday slot can sometimes result in a less controlled race. With some teams balancing ambitions across the weekend, La Classique Morbihan often delivers surprises – breakaway wins, reduced sprints, and unexpected names on the podium have all been regular features.
Italian riders have been particularly successful here, with Eleonora Gasparrini taking the 2024 edition in a rain-soaked sprint, extending a streak that has also seen victories from Gaia Masetti and Antri Christoforou in recent years. The solo nature of those previous wins highlights how difficult this race can be to manage, especially with limited time to organise a coherent chase.
The 2025 route again finishes in Josselin after 112.6km of racing, including six laps of a final circuit that culminates in a short, punchy uphill drag to the line. While not selective in a traditional mountain sense, the climb and twisting approach thin out the peloton with each pass. It’s a course that rewards positioning and race craft. Riders need to be alert to the possibility of late attacks, especially if the bunch hesitates. In previous editions, a lone escapee has often hovered just out of reach, with the catch, or failure to do so, proving decisive.
The course’s narrow, technical sections can cause splits, and in poor weather the risk of crashes increases. In 2024, slippery conditions turned the finale into a test of handling as well as strength. Riders who manage to stay upright and avoid mechanical issues already gain an advantage before the race is even decided on legs.
