Officialisation of the next ‘telephone’ roster
The Cuban, 5th in the last World Cup and one of the most complete cyclists in the WorldTour, closes a luxury squad, with Van Vleuten and Norsgaard once again as great leaders.
Movistar Team confirms this Monday the composition of its female squad for 2022, the fifth campaign for Sebastián Unzué’s team -third in the UCI Women’s WorldTour category, since its foundation- in the elite of the international peloton.
Twelve cyclists from the current telephone roster will continue to wear the blue colours next year: Katrine Aalerud (NOR), Aude Biannic (FRA), Jelena Erić (SRB), Alicia González (ESP), Barbara Guarischi (ITA), Sheyla Gutiérrez ( ESP), Sara Martín (ESP), Emma Norsgaard (DEN), Lourdes Oyarbide (ESP), Paula Patiño (COL), Gloria Rodríguez (ESP) and Annemiek van Vleuten (NED). They will be joined by two signings: the already confirmed incorporation of Sarah Gigante (AUS) and a second reinforcement, which the team confirms today, with the arrival of Arlenis Sierra (CUB).
In her sixth season as a professional – after five years in the structure of Aldo Piccolo, Astana / AR Monex (2017-2021) -, Sierra (Manzanillo; 1992) will provide the Movistar Team with great versatility: she performs at a good level on winding terrain and has a powerful sprint. She has signed a great end to the season: after her victory in the second of the Navarra Classics, in May, she has added two stages and the general one of the Giro Toscana; a stage of the Tour de l’Ardèche; the Tre Valli Varesine; and a 5th place in the Leuven Road World Championship.
Arlenis Sierra: “Very grateful to the team for the trust. They give me many possibilities to continue developing myself. I want to try this new experience, take advantage of this two-year contract, that my results are better and better and that I can advance a little more in my sporting level ”.
At the time of the officialisation of its 2022 squad, Movistar Team wishes to wish luck and heartily thank Alba Teruel for their contribution to the team, after her four seasons in the telephone lines, and Leah Thomas, a member of the blue team during such a successful 2021 .
