Demey in top-10 Omloop van het Hageland

After a strong team performance in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Liv Racing Xstra was at the the front in the Omloop van het Hageland.

In the second spring classic of this season a quartet animated the first part of the race. After they were reeled in some new breakaway attempts followed. It lasted till the final 40 kilometres for a group of 10 riders to take a sizeable gap. Liv Racing Xstra was represented by Valerie Demey in the first group. The peloton started a hard chase, but the gap grew to 40 seconds with 20 kilometres to go.

In the front attacks came from the breakaway on the final lap of the race. Demey also tried her luck, but she was caught quickly. Despite all the attacks a sprint had to bring the decision. Marta Bastianelli was the fastest of the group and took the win in front of Emma Norsgaard and Floortje Mackaij. Demey crossed the finish line in a very nice 8th place.

“I am very happy about today. Yesterday I had a good feeling already, but couldn`t get in a good group then. Today I tried again and jumped with a nice group. We managed to stay clear and battle for the victory. In the final lap I tried to get away, but my legs were empty and I couldn`t get a gap. But if you don`t try, you will never win. To finish in 8th place was above my expectations however. This gives a lot of morale and confidence for the next races”, Demey told after the race.
