Each year a new set of women’s national cycling champions are crowned. The opportunity to take a win in a one-day race against other riders from their own country. The winners then get to wear a national jersey for the following 12 months until the next national championships.
COVID-19 has meant that not all nations have been able to run races in 2020. Some countries, like Australia and Colombia, raced theirs earlier in the year before the pandemic took hold on a worldwide scale. Other nations have been able to run one of the road race or time trial but not both – like Italy and Germany. Whereas others like Great Britain have not run their national championships at all. For Great Britain, the incumbent jersey wearer (Alice Barnes) will be able to continue wearing the national jersey until 2021.
