The GP della Liberazione Pink returns to central Rome on 25th April 2025, once again backed by the city’s Department of Sports, Major Events, Tourism, and Fashion. Set against the historic backdrop of the Italian capital, the race remains a fixture for identifying breakout talent, particularly within the domestic peloton. Marta Bastianelli, who retired at the end of 2023, continues in her role as race patron, adding continuity and gravitas to an event that’s been a cornerstone of Italian racing for more than three decades.

ToggleDespite occasional gaps in its calendar, the race has been nearly untouchable for home riders. Since 2009, every winner has carried an Italian licence, underscoring the race’s importance on the national scene. Familiar names like Giorgia Bronzini, Marta Bastianelli, Noemi Cantele, and Letizia Paternoster have all won here, while Silvia Persico and Silvia Zanardi have taken more recent editions. The last riders to break that streak were Regina Schleicher and Diana Ziliute, each winning the race twice, highlighting just how rare a non-Italian victory has become.
The 2024 edition saw a dominant UAE Team ADQ performance, locking out the podium and 4th place with Chiara Consonni taking the sprint ahead of Silvia Persico, Eleonora Gasparrini and Federica Venturelli. That result was significant not only for the clean sweep but also because it confirmed Persico’s consistency at this race, having also won in 2022. Silvia Zanardi, the 2023 winner while still racing for BePink, followed a similar trajectory, using her success in Rome as a springboard for further results.
Letizia Paternoster’s 2018 victory for Astana is another example of how this race frequently acts as a bellwether for rising stars. With its flat and fast circuit layout around the Terme di Caracalla, the GP della Liberazione Pink suits punchy sprinters and savvy tacticians, many of whom go on to form the core of future Italian national squads.
