The fifth edition of the Ronde de Mouscron arrives on the calendar with one guarantee—there will be a new name on the winners’ list. None of the previous champions are expected to race in 2025, meaning the door is wide open in what’s become a quietly unpredictable fixture in the Belgian spring.

ToggleSince its launch in 2021, the race has thrown up a variety of outcomes. Chiara Consonni opened the record books with a dominant bunch sprint win. A year later, Thalita de Jong emerged from a large break to win ahead of the pack in a late-career resurgence. In 2023, it was all about survival in the rain, with Martina Fidanza mastering grim conditions and a thinned-out bunch – just 52 riders finished on the day. Then last season, Daria Pikulik showed her speed by edging Anniina Ahtosalo in a punchy sprint from a reduced group.
The route in 2025 returns to a familiar formula: five laps around the streets of Mouscron, totalling just over 120 kilometres. The terrain remains unchanged—urban, exposed, and endlessly rolling. It’s a course that rarely allows riders to switch off. The short cobbled section seems to be off the route in recent years. The route isn’t particularly selective on its own, but enough to add tension and break rhythm as the race progresses, especially with bad weather.
Tactically, it’s a race that sits between a pure sprint and a war of attrition. The climbs are minimal, but the accelerations are constant. Positioning will matter as much as power. Late moves can stick. Groups often fragment under pressure rather than explode on a single point. That balance between holding it together and letting it go has shaped every edition so far.
Without a defending champion and no obvious dominant favourite, this year’s edition feels wide open. The teams with sprint options may try to lock things down, but the circuit’s technical nature, the chance of wind, and the cumulative fatigue will reward sharp instincts. A new winner will be crowned—it’s just a question of whether they arrive alone or lead the line in a small sprint.
