EF-Oatly-Cannondale embarks on its second season in the professional peloton with heightened ambition and a reinforced squad. After an inaugural year marked by 14 victories, including Olympic golds and stage wins in grand tours, the team is setting its sights even higher for 2025.
The team has added four young riders – Alex Volstad, Babette van der Wolf, Henrietta Christie, and Nina Berton – all aged 23 or younger. General manager Esra Tromp described the composition of the team as her “dream roster,” saying, “The team is a mix of characters and nationalities, a mix of strengths, and all these women are open to learning. That’s something you really need – that they want to learn from each other, with each other, and grow with each other.”
The team will also benefit from the guidance of veteran road captain Sarah Roy after her signing. The Australian, a former national champion and Bretagne Ladies Tour stage winner, is expected to mentor her younger teammates.
Reflecting on a strong debut season
The team’s first season in 2024 was a success both on and off the bike. Highlights included Kristen Faulkner’s double gold at the Paris Olympics, Alison Jackson’s stage win at the Vuelta, and Clara Emond’s solo victory in a mountainous Giro stage. Tromp noted the importance of teamwork, saying, “Pretty quickly, we found a good rhythm with the whole team – with the riders and the team staff, how to work together. Setting up all the goals for all the riders, doing that together with the women, was really successful.”
She added that 2024’s lessons shaped their 2025 strategy: “After the spring, we got better and better every week. It was very cool that we won stages at the Vuelta and the Giro and came close with some top fives in the Tour de France.”
Focus on greater depth for 2025
The new season’s goal is clear: perform better across all race formats. Tromp explained, “I want to build an even stronger, more balanced team that will show more force in the finales of every kind of race. If it’s a climbing race, a classics race, or a sprint race, I want to be more present there. That’s what we were searching for in this 2025 team.”
Returning riders include standout names from 2024 such as Noemi Rüegg, Magdeleine Vallieres, Kim Cadzow, and Mirre Knaven. Veteran sprinter Lotta Henttala will guide the squad in bunch sprints, while Alison Jackson and Kristen Faulkner are set to lead the team in the spring classics and grand tours.
Tromp also stressed the importance of creating the right environment for the team’s development, noting, “We chose our program really wisely with some good development races. Our team includes different characters, balancing strength on the bike and off the bike. I’m really excited about this upcoming season, about all of the races.”
With a roster blending youthful energy and seasoned expertise, EF-Oatly-Cannondale is gearing up for an exciting second season in professional cycling.
