Tadej Pogačar tightened his control of the Tour de France on stage 10, attacking on the Col de Pertus and riding alone to victory at Le Lioran.

The yellow jersey gained 44 seconds on Jonas Vingegaard on the road and another ten through the winner’s time bonus. His overall advantage increased from 2:42 to 3:36, the largest gap between the two principal favourites so far.

The full Tour de France 2026 stage 10 report and results cover how Pogačar caught Richard Carapaz, passed him near the summit and continued alone through the final kilometres.

Remco Evenepoel finished second at 32 seconds and moved onto the overall podium. Juan Ayuso climbed to fourth, Paul Seixas moved into fifth and Florian Lipowitz reached sixth, while Isaac del Toro fell from third to seventh after losing 1:31.

The other major change came in the white jersey competition. Ayuso now leads Seixas by only 13 seconds, with Del Toro another 33 seconds behind.

Mads Pedersen strengthened his green jersey position by winning the intermediate sprint, while Pogačar extended his mountains lead. Because Pogačar will continue wearing yellow, Vingegaard remains the rider wearing the polka-dot jersey on stage 11.

For newer viewers, our Tour de France 2026 jerseys guide explains how the yellow, green, polka-dot and white classifications are decided.

The top ten has split into two clear groups.

The first nine riders remain separated by less than seven minutes, although Pogačar’s advantage means most of them are already competing more realistically for the podium than for yellow.

There is then a gap of more than five minutes from Martinez in ninth to Pidcock in tenth. Egan Bernal sits 11th at 12:15, only 26 seconds behind Pidcock, meaning the final top-ten position remains considerably more open than the race at the front.

Pidcock’s position also leaves him caught between two possible Tour objectives. He can continue protecting tenth place or begin sacrificing GC time to chase stages, an issue explored in why Tom Pidcock’s Tour is becoming more interesting by the day.

Pogačar adds another 54 seconds to his advantage

Pogačar began stage 10 with a lead of 2:42 over Vingegaard.

His attack near the summit of the Col de Pertus created a 44-second finishing gap, while the ten-second winner’s bonus increased the overall swing to 54 seconds. That leaves Vingegaard 3:36 behind before two flatter stages temporarily move the attention away from the GC battle.

The manner of the gain was as important as its size.

Vingegaard was unable to follow Pogačar’s first acceleration. He then worked in the chase group but faded during the closing kilometres, finishing behind Evenepoel, Seixas, Lipowitz, Ayuso and Skjelmose.

The stage had been shaped around the combination of Puy Mary and Pertus. Our guide to Puy Mary and the Col de Pertus identified the second climb as the most likely place for a short, explosive attack.

Pogačar waited until that point, attacked once and denied Vingegaard any chance to repeat his 2024 recovery. The deeper rivalry context is covered in why Le Lioran matters in the Pogačar and Vingegaard rivalry.

Vingegaard remains second overall, but his podium position is no longer secure. Evenepoel is only 30 seconds behind, while Ayuso, Seixas and Lipowitz are all within 1:08 of the Dane.

Visma must therefore balance two objectives. It needs to find a way of attacking Pogačar while preventing the riders behind from turning the podium contest against Vingegaard.

The tactical problem is examined in more detail in what Jonas Vingegaard needs to do to beat Tadej Pogačar.

Evenepoel replaces Del Toro on the podium

Evenepoel was briefly distanced during the hardest section of stage 10 but recovered strongly enough to finish second.

His late effort earned six bonus seconds and moved him from fourth to third overall. He now trails Pogačar by 4:06 but sits only 30 seconds behind Vingegaard.

That makes Evenepoel one of the main winners from Le Lioran.

He did not threaten Pogačar’s stage victory, but he limited his losses better than Vingegaard and removed Del Toro from the podium. The Belgian also has the individual time trial on stage 16, giving him another opportunity to reshape the standings.

Florian Lipowitz’s ride strengthened Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe’s position further. The German finished alongside Seixas, 34 seconds behind Pogačar, and moved into sixth overall at 4:44.

Lipowitz is now only 38 seconds behind Evenepoel. That gives Red Bull two riders inside the top six, although the team may eventually need to decide whether both can continue pursuing individual GC positions.

Del Toro loses third place and the white jersey

Del Toro started stage 10 third overall and as the leader of the young rider classification.

He was dropped on the Col de Pertus before Pogačar made his decisive attack and eventually finished 1:31 behind his team-mate. That dropped the Mexican to seventh overall at 5:08.

The loss changes his position within UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

Del Toro remains close enough to finish high overall, but he is now 1:32 behind Vingegaard and more than a minute outside the podium. Pogačar’s growing advantage also reduces any need for UAE to protect Del Toro at the expense of supporting yellow.

He remains central to the white jersey competition, sitting only 46 seconds behind Ayuso. The classification can still change quickly in the Vosges, Jura and Alps.

Ayuso takes white as the young riders close up

Juan Ayuso is the new leader of the young rider classification.

The Lidl-Trek rider finished fifth on stage 10, 38 seconds behind Pogačar, and moved to fourth in the general classification. He leads Seixas by 13 seconds and Del Toro by 46 seconds.

The white jersey is now the tightest of the Tour’s four individual classifications.

Ayuso, Seixas and Del Toro are separated by less than one minute, and each has already shown different strengths. Ayuso has been consistent across the route, Seixas has handled the steep accelerations particularly well and Del Toro remains one of the strongest climbing support riders in the race.

The wider field and their prospects are covered in our guide to the young riders to watch at the Tour de France 2026.

Seixas produced one of the rides of the day at Le Lioran. The 19-year-old finished third, collected four bonus seconds and moved within 13 seconds of the white jersey on Bastille Day.

His performance also strengthens the wider question around the next French Tour de France generation. Seixas is no longer simply gaining experience. He is fifth overall and directly involved in one of the race’s closest jersey battles.

Martinez lost time and fell to ninth overall, but a deficit of 2:12 in the white jersey competition remains recoverable across the remaining mountain stages.

Pedersen extends his green jersey lead

The points classification did not change leader, but Pedersen added another useful haul.

He won the intermediate sprint before the major climbs and then settled into the gruppetto, finishing more than 36 minutes behind Pogačar. The result increased his total to 293 points.

Pedersen leads Girmay by 54 points, with Merlier 80 points behind.

That margin is significant but not secure. Stages 11 and 12 are expected to end in bunch sprints, and each offers major points at both the intermediate sprint and finish.

Merlier could gain heavily if he repeats his Bordeaux and Bergerac victories. Girmay’s consistency also keeps him close enough to challenge if Pedersen finishes outside the leading positions.

Pedersen’s advantage remains his ability to score on stages where the pure sprinters cannot. He has taken points from breakaways, reduced finishes and early intermediate sprints, allowing him to protect green without winning every bunch sprint.

The shape of the competition and the stages still to come are analysed in whether Mads Pedersen can win the green jersey.

Pogačar tightens his hold on the polka dots

Pogačar also increased his lead in the mountains classification.

He now has 42 points, 15 more than Vingegaard. Richard Carapaz moved into third with 19 after attacking over Puy Mary and collecting points across the decisive section of the stage.

Pogačar will wear yellow on stage 11, so Vingegaard will continue wearing the polka-dot jersey as the second-placed rider in the mountains classification.

That does not mean Vingegaard leads the competition. Pogačar retains the points and remains the official King of the Mountains leader.

The distinction is explained in why Vingegaard wears the polka-dot jersey when Pogačar leads the mountains classification.

The competition remains heavily weighted towards the GC riders because the largest points have been collected on stages they controlled. Carapaz is now the strongest specialist challenger, although he remains 23 points behind Pogačar.

Later summit finishes offer much larger totals, meaning the classification can still change. A rider targeting the jersey through breakaways will need to collect heavily before Pogačar reaches the decisive final climbs.

The likely challengers and remaining opportunities are covered in the Tour de France 2026 climbers and polka-dot jersey guide.

Lidl-Trek still controls the team classification

Lidl-Trek remains comfortably ahead in the team competition.

Ayuso and Skjelmose both finished 38 seconds behind Pogačar on stage 10, allowing the team to defend most of the advantage created by its successful stage 4 breakaway.

Lidl-Trek has several riders capable of contributing to the classification, including Ayuso, Skjelmose and Carlos Verona.

UAE possesses the strongest individual rider in the race but lost substantial team-classification time when Lidl-Trek placed several riders in the successful stage 4 move.

Closing more than 24 minutes remains possible, particularly in the Alps, but it requires UAE to keep three riders near the front on the hardest days.

Carapaz takes the stage 10 combativity award

Richard Carapaz was named the most combative rider after attacking from the favourites group on Puy Mary.

He caught and passed the earlier breakaway riders, crossed the summit alone and began the Col de Pertus with an advantage over the yellow jersey group.

Pogačar eventually caught him after launching his own attack, but Carapaz’s move helped shape the decisive part of the stage. His efforts also lifted him to third in the mountains classification.

The Ecuadorian is now 17:43 behind on GC, giving him enough time loss to receive greater freedom in later breakaways.

What changes on stage 11?

Stage 11 from Vichy to Nevers should shift attention away from the general classification and towards the sprinters.

Pogačar and the other GC contenders should finish together, provided they avoid crashes or crosswind splits. The main jersey movement is more likely to come in the points classification.

There are major points available at the intermediate sprint and finish. Girmay, Merlier, Philipsen and Kanter can all reduce Pedersen’s lead, while Pedersen will try to score in both contests.

The two category-four climbs offer only limited mountains points, meaning Pogačar should retain that classification without difficulty.

Ayuso’s white jersey advantage is only 13 seconds, but a conventional bunch finish should leave the young rider standings unchanged.

The full Tour de France 2026 stage 11 preview covers the route, favourites and likely sprint battle in Nevers.

Tour de France 2026 jersey wearers on stage 11

  • Yellow jersey: Tadej Pogačar
  • Green jersey: Mads Pedersen
  • Polka-dot jersey: Jonas Vingegaard, wearing it for mountains leader Pogačar
  • White jersey: Juan Ayuso
  • Leading team: Lidl-Trek

Pogačar leaves Le Lioran with control of two classifications and a stronger overall advantage than he held before the first rest day.

The white jersey has changed shoulders, the podium battle has tightened and Pedersen faces two crucial sprint stages in his attempt to retain green.

Yellow looks increasingly secure. Almost everything behind it remains open.
