Flanders Classics organises and runs a series of major races through the spring classics part of the year. They’ve announced the invited teams for the 2022 editions of Gent Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders. 2021’s races saw impressive wins for Marianne Vos and Annemiek van Vleuten. Vos won a bunch sprint against the likes of Lotte Kopecky, Marta Bastianelli and Lisa Brennauer. Van Vleuten then won Flanders with a solo break after attacking on the steep slopes of the Paterberg.
There aren’t many shocks and mostly as expected. All of the Women’s WorldTour teams get their mandatory invites. Plus the 3 non-WWT teams who get mandatory invites – Ceratizit-WNT, Valcar-Travel & Service and Parkhotel Valkenburg.
There’s no surprise to see Belgian teams well represented. Bingoal Casino, Multum Accountants, Lotto Soudal and Plantur Pura will be taking part in both races. British team Le-Col Wahoo and Dutch team NXTG by Experza will also be at both races. The only teams to be invited to just one of the races each are Cofidis at Gent Wevelgem and Massi Tactic at the Tour of Flanders.
