The 13th edition of the Trofeo Oro in Euro will see 148 riders from 25 different teams compete on Sunday, 9th March 2025. The race, starting and finishing in Montignoso, will cover 106.8 km, with a final circuit featuring a double ascent of the Fortress hill, a climb that has often been decisive in shaping the race outcome.
Elisa Longo Borghini, newly of UAE Team ADQ, lines up as the defending champion and is aiming for her third victory in the event – a feat no rider has yet managed. The Italian champion will have strong support from Karlijn Swinkels, who finished second last year, and Silvia Persico, fresh from an impressive UAE Tour, where she finished just behind her team leader. The UAE squad will take on six WorldTour teams, three ProTeams, eight Continental teams, and seven club teams, all fielding riders capable of making an impact on this Montignoso classic.
Strong squads from Canyon SRAM, Fenix-Deceuninck, and Human Powered Health
Canyon SRAM brings an attacking duo with Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, an experienced climber with a strong record in one-day races, and Neve Bradbury, a promising young Australian talent who claimed the white jersey at the 2024 Giro Women.
Fenix-Deceuninck’s line-up includes cyclocross talents Sara Casasola and Puck Pieterse, both of whom have impressed in the early-season classics.
Human Powered Health is led by Ruth Edwards, who finished third in this race last year, and Dutch climber Thalita De Jong, who already took a victory at the Trofeo Benissalem-Andratx in late January.
Uno-X Mobility’s leading contender is Linda Zanetti, who has already secured a win and two second places this season, including her runner-up finish behind Lorena Wiebes at Le Samyn des Dames last Tuesday.
Italian contenders and potential sprinters
Several Italian riders could be in contention, including Arianna Fidanza and Sara Tomasi of Laboral Kutxa, both past winners of this race in 2015 and 2019 respectively. If the race comes down to a sprint, look out for Sara Fiorin from Ceratizit Pro Cycling and Martina Alzini of Cofidis as potential contenders.
A strong presence from Continental and club teams is also expected, with many likely to try their luck in early breakaways.
