A quick preview look at Tour of Chongming Island 2025

Marta Lach 2024 Tour of Chongming Island Stage 3 Podium

The Tour of Chongming Island returns for its 2025 edition from 14 to 16 October, bringing three days of fast, tactical racing across the flat, windswept roads of the Yangtze estuary near Shanghai. Known as a pure sprinters’ race, the event remains a key fixture on the UCI Women’s WorldTour, offering one of the final opportunities of the season for fast finishers to add a prestigious WorldTour victory to their palmarès.

Established in 2007, the Tour of Chongming Island has long been the stage where the sport’s elite sprinters have showcased their dominance. From Ina-Yoko Teutenberg and Kirsten Wild to Lorena Wiebes and Chiara Consonni, the winner’s list reads like a who’s who of the fastest riders of the past two decades. Each edition has stayed true to its identity: flat stages, exposed roads, and furious bunch sprints that reward precision teamwork and perfect timing.

The 2025 race once again features three stages – Chongxi to Chongxi, Chongdong to Chongdong, and a final circuit around Chongzhong – all on terrain that favours high-speed finishes. However, the unpredictable coastal winds of the Yangtze Delta can still turn the race on its head. Teams that manage positioning and echelon tactics will hold the upper hand in what is often a battle of organisation as much as raw speed.

Last year, Marta Lach took a memorable overall victory, clinching both the final stage and the general classification for Ceratizit-WNT ahead of Mylène de Zoete and Scarlett Souren. With Ceratizit’s dominance in 2024 and the steady rise of riders like Sofie van Rooijen, Tereza Neumanová, and Scarlett Souren, the 2025 edition promises another tightly contested showdown.

This year, the Tour of Chongming Island serves as the penultimate event on the Women’s WorldTour calendar, with the Tour of Guangxi set to bring the curtain down on the 2025 season just a few days later on 19 October. Together, they provide a fast-paced finale to the year, showcasing the world’s best sprinters before the peloton heads into the off-season.
