The 13th edition of the Trofeo Oro in Euro takes place on Sunday, 9th March 2025, with 148 riders from 25 teams set to battle it out in Cinquale on the Ligurian Sea. The 106.8 km course features a mix of flat opening laps before a decisive final circuit with two ascents of the Fortress hill, a climb that has often shaped the outcome of this early-season test.

First held in 2008, the race became part of the UCI calendar in 2022 as a 1.2 event before being upgraded to 1.1 status in 2023, where it remains today. The race has acted as a springboard for talent, with recent winners including Elisa Longo Borghini in 2024, Gaia Realini in 2023, and Sofia Bertizzolo in 2022. Before gaining UCI status, past champions included established Italian names such as Longo Borghini (2012), Arianna Fidanza (2015), Marta Bastianelli (2018), Laura Tomasi (2019), and Rachele Barbieri (2021).

A strong lineup for 2025

Defending champion Longo Borghini, now racing for UAE Team ADQ, returns looking to become the first rider to win the race three times. She will have strong support from last yearโ€™s runner-up Karlijn Swinkels and Silvia Persico, who recently impressed at the UAE Tour.

UAE Team ADQ is one of six WorldTour teams on the start list, joined by three ProTeams, eight Continental squads, and seven club teams. Among them, Canyon SRAM brings Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and Neve Bradbury, while Fenix-Deceuninck fields cyclocross specialists Sara Casasola and Puck Pieterse. Human Powered Health, with last year’s podium-finisher Ruth Edwards and Thalita De Jong, will look to shake up the race, while Uno-X Mobility’s Linda Zanetti is another rider in strong early-season form.

Several Italian riders have past success in Montignoso, including Fidanza and Tomasi, both racing for Laboral Kutxa. If the race comes down to a reduced sprint, riders like Sara Fiorin of Ceratizit Pro Cycling and Martina Alzini of Cofidis could be in the mix. With a mix of top-tier teams and motivated underdogs, the 2025 edition promises another hard-fought battle on the Ligurian coast.
